Reina – Translated as "Queen." (October 21, 1925 – July 16, 2003) Celia Cruz was a Cuban salsa singer, and was one of the most successful Salsa performers of the 20th century, with twenty-three gold albums to her name. She was renowned internationally as the "Queen of Salsa" as well as "La Guarachera de Cuba". She spent most of her career living in New Jersey, and working in the United States and several Latin American countries. She labeled herself as "the voice of Cuba," though she refused to return to her homeland after Fidel Castro came to power. She is an undisputed pioneer in salsa music, and the first female to reign in a salsa world of predominantly male singers.
Reina: (21 de octubre 1925 – 16 de Julio 2003) Celia Cruz, la celebrada cantante salsera cubana, fue una de las artistas mas exitosas del siglo, con veintitrés discos al nivel de ventas de oro. Su fama internacional es de: “La Reina de la Salsa” y “La Guarachera de Cuba”. Vivió en New Jersey la mayor parte de su carrera, y también trabajo en varios países latino-americanos. Ella misma se nombro “La Voz de Cuba”, aunque se rehúso a regresar a Cuba después que Fidel Castro tomo el poder. Sin duda ella fue gran innovadora del genero de la salsa, y primera mujer en triunfar en una profesión donde predominan los hombres.
